another fab day of vacation yesterday. (of course i started it with 3 hours of work in the morning.) i set out around 10:30am and started walking down newbury street; my hotel is close by, and it's been years since i've walked the whole street (even though it was part of my sales territory, and i drove down it every week). i didn't even care that it was a gray day, and still didn't care when the skies opened and it started to pour... i just ducked into CVS, bought an umbrella, and went on enjoying my walk. i found a fantastic poster of andy warhol's "twelve cars" that'll go great in my bedroom (i adore his work), and stopped in a bunch of little places that i'd always seen and never explored. it was a ball.

i was scheduled to have lunch with D at noon at the trident cafe, one of my favorite places in Boston to eat. true to form, he was 45 minutes late. i managed to not strangle him, and we had a nice meal. after lunch i went back to the hotel via boylston street, stopping in crate and barrel to order a gorgeous floor mirror for the new apartment that i'd been eyeing online for a couple of months (and finally had some xmas gift cards to make it affordable).

back at the hotel, i went down the street to finale and got a gooey chocolate mousse thingy to take up to my room while i read all my free weekly boston mags... then a long nap and bubble bath before going out for the evening *happy sigh*. spent the evening with some gals from work at "match", this new hip place on mass ave whose gimmick is a bunch of foo-foo martinis and mini slider burgers to mix and match. (and the tallest hostesses i have ever seen in my life -- no lie, two 6'2" blonde glamazons in black cocktail dresses greeted me when i walked in the door.) i got a mini lamb burger (yum) and a mini regular one, and 3 martinis that were so potent that i could only take a sip of the 3rd one because i was getting so looped. #1 was a mango something-or-other that was divine, #2 was another fruity one with a rim coated in pop rocks, and #3 was a toasted coconut one that would have been great if i was looking to be falling-down drunk. (i'm so old.) the dessert that we shared was really cool -- a slab of chocolate cookie dough that was pan-seared to heat it and crisp the outside a teeny bit, so it was still raw and gooey inside, served with dulce la leche ice cream. 2 bites and i was on sugar overload.

today it's sushi with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], then off to the big dance weekend!

I think that's the name of the sushi place. And a fine time was had, though I don't think I've ever eaten so much sushi so quickly and tasted so little of it. Teddy was full of beans -- and I don't mean edamame, much as he loves it.

So much for stranger anxiety. Every person coming in the door was his new best friend.

No really, I love having a friendly baby. I just wish he'd save the friendliness (and the climbing out of the highchair) 'til after I've eaten my frickin' sushi.

Smooooches, babe!
