...is that it's a short week. that, and part of my scheduling today leaves me in downtown crossing (a huge boston shopping area) right around lunchtime. sa-weet. but it's a long day scheduled for today, and my back/shoulder is still in agony. i'm praying that my car will be ready (it died on thursday, so i'm in a rental... i'm totally rockin' an impala right now *chuckle*), so that i can pick it up in the afternoon and break up my day a little bit.

what do you do for an ouchy back besides hot baths and handfuls of advil?

the rest of the weekend was good. D and i hung out yesterday, i hadn't seen him in almost 2 weeks... we went to see "murderball" (GREAT documentary), then came back here and watched some of the "miami ink" marathon on TLC.

i haven't slept well in 2 days, ever since that stupid ex stuff i posted about the other day. i shouldn't let him get to me, i have more important things to worry about right now than whatever emotional issues he's harboring. i'm just a big one for fairness, always have been... and when someone misunderstands me and attacks me, and continues to attack me instead of apologizing, i have a huge problem with that. even if the person isn't worth it. grrrrr.

I've got a bad back and the one thing that has consistently worked for me (other than acupuncture and chiropractic--which I highly recommend!) is yoga. I know you're a dancer, have you tried practicing yoga before?

if you can't get it now, definitely get the DVD set when it comes out!

Chiropractic's great. So's massage. My masseuse is terrific, if you don't have one already (she's in Needham, in case that matters).

Hot baths aren't supposed to be good, as wonderful as they do feel -- you're supposed to use ice instead, to keep down inflammation.

That said, I use hot baths myself. And heating pads. Bad me.

As someone who has a persistently screwed up upper back, I'd advise going to a chiropractor or a PT as soon as possible. If your muscles are in spasm, the longer they stay that way, the longer it takes to recover. Inflammation shouldn't last a long time on its own, so if it keeps happening, go see someone. Oh, and Aleve is great.

you know, i went to a yoga class at bally's a couple years back... i walked in, and it was dark and everyone was lying in poses on the floor and i didn't know what the hell i was supposed to be doing... so i walked back out. :) i think i have a yoga DVD somewhere, i should give it a try... any recommendations on a beginner class somewhere? and which kind of yoga to do... aren't there like 50 different kinds? *grin*

lol, that sounds about right.
Most beginners like to start out with Hatha Yoga...it's slower, more relaxed, and a great way to learn the basic poses. Then if you're looking for a good workout you'd want to look into ashtanga or bikram--those are both more athletic, and bikram is held in a heated room. I took the hatha and bikram yoga classes at healthworks in the back bay and loved them, but I heard that there's a great studio right in davis sq...I think the woman who runs the place is named Christine. I know I saw it in the davis_square community, but of course there are no memories for that place, argh.

Good question... kind of a mix, actually. Ilene has been treating me for so long that she's a good judge of what's too much "ouch" -- and if she misses it, I tell her when I'm on the border of "hurts now but will feel better later because of it" and "just plain hurts now."
