decadent day
Jul. 8th, 2005 07:52 amforgot to write about this the other day... wednesday at lunch, my co-worker K and i had a lovely time at the hotel commonwealth in downtown boston. there's a hallway on the main floor that's lined with foo-foo boutiques, and we needed to get out of the torrential rain for a bit, so why not do some shopping?
we really wanted to check out nantucket natural oils, a shop that specializes in custom fragrance blends... i'd been to the one on nantucket, but had heard that the new boston one was bigger. it was HUGE. the place was set up like a bar, with hundreds and hundreds of bottles of fragranced oils lined up along the bar back, ready to be blended into whatever kind of perfume we wanted. they also sell ready-made belends that are identical to commercially known fragrances... scents can't be patented, so they have the recipes for all the major brands and sell the oil (no alcohol) version for cheaper than the brand name. like the perfume "joy" -- it's like $400 a bottle in stores, but they sell the oil of it for $65. not bad. i ended up buying one of their blends, a light, clean, almost laundry detergent smelling "nantucket rain"... and also a bottle of the oil version of "hollywood", which i'd never seen in stores before but it's fantastic. next step? going back when i have more time, to custom blend and name my own perfume. i'm thinking something sweet and a little spicy, and i'll call it "chickabowbow". *grin*
on the way back to the lobby to get our car, we stopped in temper chocolates to get something sweet. i'd heard they carried a line of chocolates i'd seen on the food network recently, and i was dying to try some... i ended up buying the best chocolate bar i've ever had. dark chocolate with hot peppers and cinnamon... oh my GOD was it amazing. now i want to go online and order all their exotic truffles... they put godiva to absolute shame.
if only i had something like that lined up for today... it's gray outside, and all i have ahead of me are sales calls and getting the company car fixed. gotta spice things up a bit. hrm.
