fun, FUN weekend!
Apr. 18th, 2005 07:41 amthe soul food brunch/pj party/zany movie marathon was such a huge success! whee! it was a boatload of work, but D and i pulled it off and had a blast. we got up around 9am, showered and straightened up a bit, and by 10am we were in full-on cook mode. it took a bit longer that we thought, especially considering that we saved the fried chicken almost until last (which takes forever 'cause you have to do it in batches). oops. but the food came out SO well... all i can say is, anyone who needs a recipe, get it off the food network web site, because we used every single recipe from there and it couldn't have turned out better. we did buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy, collard greens, cheese grits, scrambled eggs, fried chicken, and watermelon. the fried chicken knocked my socks off, and the bourbon pecan pie we had for dessert (YUM) got raves. after stuffing ourselves and pounding back a few mimosas, we watched shaolin soccer (OMG, laughed my ass off) and then buckaroo banzai. then came the downer of the day... J got in one of his moods, like he did after seeing "napoleon dynamite", and sat there for over a half hour wanting to analyze why he hated buckaroo banzai while the rest of us found it funny. i just wanted to shake him and say, "DUDE! it's ok to not like a movie... just hate it and move on!!!!" *sigh*.
after everyone left, D and i went into the kitchen, and i almost had a heart attack. we'd used just about every plate, fork, cooking utensil, and pot/pan in my apartment, and then some (D had brought over his pots and pans as well). we ended up doing dishes until almost 11pm, but we just talked and laughed the whole time and analyzed the recipes we'd used. so all in all, the whole day (even the dishes) went well... everyone liked our cooking, the movies were a hoot, and i got to spend time with my friends. oh, and D gained even more respect from all my friends for his choice of jammies -- xmas tree jammies, with giant fluffy dinosaur-feet slippers that go "rrrraaawwwwrrrrr!!!!!" when you walk around. *chuckle*
oh, and saturday night was fun as well -- there was a westie dance, and they decided to make it an 80's theme... which of course i was all over. *grin* what i should have realized is that to most people, a theme night means seeing what you have in your closet and adapting it... i, on the other hand, had gone shopping for everything to make it more authentic. hehe but my outfit was a huge hit. i did an 80s new-wave look: doc martens, black spandex skirt, siouxie and the banshees t-shirt (off the shoulder), studded belt over the t-shirt, fingerless gloves, rubber bracelets, bright-ass makeup, and one long earring. oh, and i totally new-waved my hair: slicked short on one side, freaked out and big on the other to make it asymmetrical. *grin* i totally should have taken a photo, it was a scream.
*happy sigh* so, great weekend. i SO don't want to get ready for work, the marathon is today and driving's going to be a nightmare. it happens to completely bisect my sales territory, so i have to drive alllllllllllll the way around it. *sigh*
