if anyone wants a good weight-loss book, i'd highly recommend the new title "french women don't get fat". it's fantastic. it's written by the CEO of veuve cliquot, an american who grew up in france but came to the US as an exchange student when she was 18 and put on 20 pounds... when she went back to france, her doctor taught her the basic french common sense about eating, and the weight dropped off again. it's not a strict weight loss plan... instead, it just talks about enjoying and celebrating food, eating good things in moderation (including chocolate, bread, wine, and cheese), and gives a bunch of fantastic french recipes. i swear, as i was reading it, i wanted to go out to the market and buy tons of in-season fruits and veggies and start cooking.*
speaking of which,
12thknight's giftie sautee pan is gorgeous. i am going to get SO much use out of it. i owe you one, hon. *hug* and i got inspired, and went to williams-sonoma on friday with an old store credit i found in a drawer, and bought myself some fun stuff... a couple of jars of my favorite pasta sauce, a can of loose tea, and a cake pan that actually bakes 6 small, funky, beautiful bundt cakes at once. i was thiiiiiis close to getting a potato ricer as well, but i haven't made mashed potatoes in years...
today i got to shop with someone else's money, which is always a treat. *grin*
the_cook asked me to go to the mall with him to pick out stuff for his apartment... 3 hours later, his rental car was packed to the gills with dishes, glassware, towels, and an assload of bedding. it was a sight to behold... as was the poor sales clerk at crate and barrel, wheeling all of ed's dishware and glasses out on a big wooden cart with wheels. now THAT'S shopping. *fans self*
going out tonight to see october project at club passim in harvard square. i'm so psyched. last night was drinks at the B-side lounge with T, my crazy co-worker who made friends with half the bar inside of an hour. we're supposed to do brunch in the morning with some of the people we met there, but i swear, with all this running around i just want to sleep in.
*oh... and i'm down 5 pounds. woot!
