first night

swingchickiewow, boston is a ghost town today. i tried to do a few sales calls this morning, but every single office was closed for the holiday. so i swung by filene's, picked up my evening gown from the seamstress there, and spent the next hour trying to find matching earrings. finding earrings is worse than finding the dress. normally, you'd just look for something that matches... but when there's swing dancing involved, there's the added pressure of finding the right length to sparkle to weight ratio... see, you need something long and sparkly to be elegant, but if the earrings are too heavy, then you run the risk of having one fly off your ear mid-spin... you can solve that by finding ones with a hook instead of a post (another challenge), but then again if they're too heavy still, you'll have earlobes stretched down to your knees after an hour. it's very complicated.
so, i'm looking forward to this weekend. while everyone is romaing the freezing cold streets of boston, i will be safe and sound with 600 swing dancers in an out-of-town hotel. i'm bringing my karaoke machine, 'cause L2 and i are going to have a cocktail party in our room tonight before the big party in the ballroom... and bill (the guy running the event) said he'd actually like to use my machine for saturday night, and put it in the lobby right outside the main dance. what a hoot. i'm sure there'll be many pictures to post...
lastly, i hope that all of you guys have a wonderful new year's eve, and a great 2005. personally, this has been a nutty year... crazy health issues, crazy relationship issues, crazy work issues... but i learned a lot about myself in the process, and came out the other side a better woman for it. and LJ has been a big part of it... thank you guys for all of your support, and for letting me listen in on your lives this year. i'm grateful for the new friends i've made, and so glad that i've been able to stay in touch with the people i care about. i love you guys. ::hug::
