shoe crazy

yesterday i had some time to kill at lunch, so i stopped in filene's for a bit... figured i'd get some ideas for what i wanted to wear at the new year's dance weekend in danvers. i saw a couple of cute things... a black lace skirt, a couple of sparkly tops... and then as i came out the other side of the juniors section (shut up, they have all the fun clothes), i saw... the shoe department. now, i have to say, i have been very disappointed with the shoes out this season. they've been dull, dull, dull. but oh my GOD, i swear, this time i wanted to buy everything on the racks! seriously, i was totally contemplating busting open my savings account and going freakin' NUTS. the colors... the fabrics... rhinestones, bows, buckles... i'm the kind of shopper where i don't buy just anything, i want shoes that are different, that make a statement. i don't buy a pair of shoes unless they "speak" to me. well, let me tell you, the shelves were singing in 10-part harmony.

somehow i managed to restrain myself to just 2 purchases. one of them was practical, a kelly green pair of slingbacks that complete an outfit i've been trying to put together for months (they match a bag and a sweater of mine exactly, and coordinate with a gorgeous shimmery brocade coat i got last summer on sale). the other pair was, i have to say, my dream dressy shoe... the kind of shoe i was looking for when [livejournal.com profile] 12thknight and i went shopping for the wedding i went to last month. they're all sparkly, and great to dance in, and... oh, see 'em for yourself:

i wuvs them.

but, now, i need to take a moment to mourn. there was another shoe that called to me from the shelves... hell, it didn't call, it BELLOWED. i tried to find a pic of it online to post, but couldn't. imagine a round-toe pump with a 3" heel... made out of plaid flannel, like a shirt you'd see a fisherman in maine wearing. now imagine the plaid is done in brown, olive green, lime green, and baby blue. (sounds odd, but the color combination was incredibly cool.) now imagine everything tied together with a lime green grosgrain ribbon accent bow on the toe, and the same ribbon going across the back of the shoe. it was totally retro, and very bright, the kind of shoe where people would stop me every time i wore it. (actually, if my cat monkey were a shoe, this would be it. loud, but completely cool. MEEEEHHHHH!) BUT... i could not for the life of me figure out one outfit they'd go with, or one place i could wear them. i walked around that shoe department for 20 minutes, trying desperately to come up with an excuse to buy them (that they were on sale for $34 was a pretty good one, but not quite good enough). but i couldn't come up with one. they're too bold to wear on sales calls, WAY too bold to wear to a work meeting... so a pair of heels you can't wear to work means saving them for going to dinner or something. but i don't go to heel-worthy restaurants enough, and i have a ton of others already in my closet for that. *sigh*.

so, let us take a moment to weep for the shoe that wasn't to be. and pray that, if i'm still lusting in a week, i can find it in a size 6.

I now know what would happen if FunkMaster Flex would ever moonlight for Manolo Blahnik. ::grin::

Buy them...

Consider it an excuse to make everyone in the Boston dance scene go to more heal-worthy restaurants.

Also, they're a cute way to roll drunks after nightclubbing.

An all-around good investment.
