another list
Nov. 3rd, 2004 09:42 pmthings that made me happy today:
1. i stepped on the scale, and am down 5 pounds from last week.
2. i had a great lunch hour -- ate a big plate of grilled shrimp and steamed broccoli, then went to williams-sonoma where i bought a fantastic pear tea and 2 jars of my favorite tomato sauce.
3. i made plans to go to swingin' new england next weekend... my first big dance compatition in a couple of years.
things that made me sad today:
1. i woke up to find i have a president i don't want.*
2. i drove by copley square at mid-day, and saw them taking down all the scaffolding and stage stuff from last night's kerry rally/concert/celebratory party. it looked really lonely.
3. at a clinic in chinatown today, an old lady sat next to me and began muttering to herself... then she ceremoniously took off her sneaker, and did an intricate foot-picking for a good 10 minutes.
4. peter fell off a ladder at work and broke his shoulder and a tooth. and i can't give him a hug from 350 miles away.
*the classic thing is the story my mother told me today... mom voted for kerry, but her friends, all christian, voted for bush... and why? because their ministers told them to. *sigh* religious guilt is a very powerful thing. if you want to vote for bush, do it because you like his stand on the issues... not because someone tells you to. i can only imagine how many votes were cast because someone stood up in a pulpit and said "do this", and people said "okay" without even trying to be well informed.
