last night, michael giacchino won an oscar for writing the score to the movie "up". i think i've posted on here before that michael happens to be the big brother of one of my good friends from college. i met michael a few times when i was in school, and always found him to be super-nice and funny as hell and creative in that way where brilliant stuff just flies out of his mouth and you wish you could sit inside his brain and look around.

anyway. i am beyond happy that he got an oscar, not just because he's uber-talented but also because he's not a typical hollywood douche. and his acceptance speech was so wonderful, please take a sec to click on the link below and play the video. it's one of the best (and shortest) oscar speeches i've heard.

That's so awesome. Such a talented family. I never met Michael, but the film festival I was a part of a few years ago screened Anthony's movie. He was supposed to come up for a Q&A but had to cancel at the last minute. Too bad, since I haven't really talked to him since he was in Freiburg(was that really 15 years ago? I feel old). Anyway, it looks like it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, and what a great speech.
