swingdoc... when we got together last weekend, she asked me what my favorite book was so she could buy it and read it ("fast food nation" by eric schlosser.). and she gave me "jonathan livingston seagull", which was absolutely wonderful.
so... considering that i am still stuck at home barfing up my pancreas, i need some books to pass the time. what are your favorites?
so, yes, i am still nauseous. i believe this is day 5. i'm so bummed, i had great plans for today -- lunch and sephora makeovers with 2 girlfriends from work, then tonight i was supposed to go to a housewarming party. instead i've been lying down, trying to settle my stomach. i called my MD's answering service and left a message for the doctor on call to ring me, so i could see if there's something i can take to get me through the weekend... it's been 3 hours, and no call back. ugh. i finally went out in the rain to the convenience store down the street... i was weak, but i needed the fresh air and something bland to choke down for lunch. managed to get saltines and gatorade and make it back without incident. and i have to say, when you're dehydrated and starving, grape gatorade and unsalted crackers taste better than filet mignon. now let's hope they stay down, at least for a while. that'll be progress.
one of my co-workers said to me yesterday, "jeez, you're always sick." i held back from punching him, and just said, "well, if it's annoying for you, imagine how it must be for ME, the SICK one." ::sigh::

Date: 2004-09-18 02:35 pm (UTC)-The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Great story with a little sci-fi and a little love thrown in.
-The Wisdom of Crowds by James Suroweicki. A non-fiction book about the decision making power of diverse groups of people.
-Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. Not good if you're feeling floaty and can't concentrate, but an interesting, convoluted story. Very interesting writing style.
And one of my all-time favorite books is A Widow For One Year by John Irving. Great characters, compelling story. I've read it at least 3 times.
