i haven't weeded my landscaping in just about 3 weeks. 3 weeks isn't a super long time... unless you're in my backyard. why? because i have these GIANT FREAK WEEDS that spring up overnight if you're not out there every second.

one in particular is really freaking me out, it's so big. it's going completely Audrey II on me; i'm afraid it's going to climb in my upstairs window one night and strangle me.

me with the weed:
me with the giant weed

yes, it's taller than me. from nothin to over 5' tall in 3 weeks. ugh, i'm so skeeved.

That is frightening! Pull that beast out by the roots before it demands blood.

Get Jack to climb it.
He will return with a goose that lays golden eggs and a harp that can sing and your fortune will be made.
Also tell him to be careful of the giant.

I think we might be growing the same kinds of weeds in our yards!

If that were my weed, here's what I would do.

1) Hang Christmas lights and ornaments on it.

2) Hang little foil stars and matzoh on it.

3) Dress it up in a thrift-shop dress and jewelry, take pictures.

4) Dress it up in a Christmas sweater, take pictures, send it out as my Christmas card.

5) Hack it off near the base, dig the roots out with a spade, fill the hole with cat poop (the anti-compost), cover it back up with dirt, cover it with newspaper and rocks to ensure that NOTHING. EVER. GROWS. THERE. AGAIN.

6) Hack it off near the base, dig the roots out with a spade, and plant basil there, because it looks as though that spot gets a heck of a lot of sunlight.

P.S. I love you.

damn that looks familiar!

We have some tall plants in our yard that look kinda like that. I assumed they were something that the previous owner planted on purpose. He did a great job with landscaping -- there's always something pretty blooming. Our big tall things look as though they're ready to bloom, but if flowers don't appear, we will have to slay the beasts.

Well then, how do you tell if something's a weed?

does it grow really really well with little effort? it's a weed.

Does it take a ton of work, watering, cajoling, etc do look decent? it's a regular plant.

:)

I was afraid of that...

Except that almost everything in our yard grows really well. I'm having to trim back *everything*. Since I didn't plant any of it, I really am not sure what's a weed. I mean, I'm fairly sure I shouldn't pull out the roses, the holly, the rhodies, and the hedges. But other than that?

No frickin' clue. F'rinstance, there's a *gorgeous* vine with beautiful yellow flowers that is TAKING OVER THE UNIVERSE. I've trimmed it back some, but it's so pretty that I don't want to eliminate it entirely. I think.

:sigh: Black thumb!
