all i have to say is...
May. 27th, 2009 09:01 pm...homemade strawberry ice cream is the SHIZZLE.
wow is this stuff good. and easy to make! and even better is the fact that using lower-fat and lower-cal ingredients didn't ruin the texture like i'd thought... it made perfectly awesome strawberry-y goodness, with only 1 WW POINT for an entire cup of it! woo-hoo!!!!

Date: 2009-05-28 11:36 am (UTC)I recently saw someone on the Food Network make pineapple sherbet, and it looked ridiculously easy. They cooked a few cans of pineapple chunks, blended it into buttermilk, put it in the freezer, and that was all. Naturally, I have been wanting to try it ever since.

Date: 2009-05-28 02:11 pm (UTC)heat 1 cup whole milk (i used 1% lactaid) with 2 tbsp cornstarch in a double boiler until the mixture coats the back of a spoon; put into an ice bath to cool down
blend 2 pints of strawberries, hulled and sliced (i used a bag of frozen sliced strawberries) with 3/4 cup sugar (i used splenda) in a blender
add strawberry mixture to milk mixture, and stir in 2 cups heavy whipping cream (i used fat free half and half)
chill in fridge until mixture is 40 degrees, then blend in ice cream maker
(you can also add in a couple of drops of red food coloring to make it pinker, i didn't though.)
