kids-a-plenty...
Dec. 18th, 2003 10:13 pmhad our company potluck party this evening at the office. i love my co-workers, but it was just several hours of small talk in our business suits (although i discovered a kindred Sims spirit in one of my teammates... he told me he didn't go to classes for 3 weeks in college when he started playing... LOL) a lot of people brought their kids, which was wild... seeing kids in the office is like seeing an elephant at the mall, it just feels out of place. the kids were sweet though, and it was fun to see what interesting results genetics produces. *grin*
had another run-in with a wealthy older woman today. (surprise surprise, in the same town as the starbucks incident from the other day.) i was picking up a boatload of clam chowder from this great (and really nice) seafood restaurant in the area to bring to the potluck... this woman who had been there all of one minute started snapping at the guys behind the counter for not putting her order together fast enough. i wanted to slap her across the face with a salmon steak. happy holidays, you miserable thing. i also had to bite my tongue at the supermarket... i was walking through the lot to go into the market, and another of the same ilk pulled up to the side of the market, parked in the FIRE LANE, and went in to do her shopping. she saw me glancing at her car and where it was parked, and went in anyway. as i've ranted before on here, YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. you don't get to block the side of the supermarket just because you are lazy. you are perfectly able-bodied, park where the REST of us do. ugh.
there is a power shift in the feine contingent in this apartment. it's been very interesting to watch over the last few weeks, and i have no idea what brought it on. i've had the older cat (we'll call her "OC") for 9 years now, and she and i are very attached to one another... she's very interactive and snuggly, and will sit in my arms for literally hours while i watch TV or work on the computer. she's very possessive of me, and wants to be near me all the time. (and i love it.) now, when i got the baby kitty (we'll call him "BK"), who is now 5 years old, she was incredibly jealous. she let him know from the beginning that i was HERS, and he was not to go near me. i tried to show him that i loved him too, and that i wanted to snuggle with him too, but she trained him pretty well to lay off. when i started dating my boyfriend, he was thrilled, because my boyfriend was fair game... and they became fast buddies. it was adorable. i was a bit jealous, though, because BK is such a sweet kitty and i wanted both cats to be equals. i swear, it's like having kids! anyway, after 5 years of not getting much attention from BK, there has been a definite change. now, if i'm on the sofa, HE comes and snuggles with me while OC sits off to the side, instead of the other way around. and if OC comes over to sit with me, he doesn't budge for her. it's kinda cool. but like i said, i have no idea what brought it on... no idea why he's finally asserting himself and saying, "no she's MY mom too, and i'm going to hang with her." if only i spoke kitty.
i am SO off to bed... i'm exhausted, and i need to be up and about for the rest of my shopping tomorrow...
