1. what are your three favorite books and why?
hrm! it's funny, i love to read but i had to really think about this.
"microserfs" by douglas coupland - douglas coupland is the first and probably only author i've ever completely geeked out over. his characters are always so quirky and fun, and i just want to meet them IRL and hang out with them for the day. there's a scene in this book where one of the microsoft employees, a guy nicknamed "bug" because he can debug anything, gets so immersed in some code he's working with that he doesn't leave his office for days... his co-workers go to the local mini-mart and buy flat foods (saltines and cheese slices) that they slide under his door so he'll have something to keep him going. that slays me.
"helter skelter" - i've read this probably a dozen times over the years... i'm fascinated and horrified by true crime books, and this one is one of the best ever written. (for anyone who hasn't heard of it, it's the account of the manson murders and trial, written by one of the prosecuting attorneys.)
"the davinci code" - i know, everyone in the universe read it. but this book boggled my mind with how dan brown was able to weave religion and history and art together, in a book of fiction, in a way that was so completely believeable. he deserves every dollar he's made from it.
2. When you met us, what made you think, "Yes, these are my people!"?
really, it was the very first time i met
jeremym,
boutell, and
ms_violet. i went to that karaoke bar wondering what the hell i was doing meeting up with a bunch of strangers... within 5 minutes i was like, "why haven't i run into these people before???" jerm and tom dove into their songs with such gusto... and then linds killed me with her totally psycho rendition of "you oughta know". i was sold. and of course, the fact that bobbi was there to hang with them as well, and i've been friends with her since college... didn't hurt! and as i got to know each of you guys (talking to you on the way to the pinball championships, meeting jill at puppet karaoke, yadda yadda) i was just so impressed with how loving and warm and freaking FUNNY and creative you all were. i felt like i was finding my long-lost family.
3. If you had time for another project in your life (ha ha yeah ...) what would it be?
i'd love to be the lead singer of a band. i don't know a thing about putting a group together, which kind of gets in the way... but i would love to front a rockabilly or other swing-type band and just be a total badass on stage every once in a while. every time i see a really good concert, there's a teeny piece of me that dies inside... i wish like crazy that i was up there with them singing away.
4. Is there a God/divine spirit? If there is, what's God like?
honestly, i wish i knew. i was raised catholic, so there's a piece of me that still thinks there might be a god out there (and i certainly pray to him/her every time i find myself on a plane, gripping my armrests in terror)... but what he's like, whether i'll meet him someday, etc i just don't have a clue. i'd like to think that if there is a god, he's the embodiment of love and acceptance, instead of the vengeful smite-thee-to-hell god that some people go for. i'd like to think that when the sick and downtrodden and lonely go to the afterworld, god is there to wrap them up in his arms and give them a big snorgle.
5. If you could dress up as anyone or anything for Halloween (money is no object, you can change your sex, your body type, whatever), what/who would you dress as?
i'd plan to go to a huge party (like the henri david ball), and select someone i knew would be there... find out what costume they'd be wearing... then i'd have myself made to be their spitting image, both as the person and in their costume... so i could flit around the ballroom all night and screw with people's heads. the poor unsuspecting person would be going up to their friends: "hey, so great to see you tonight!" "what are you talking about? we just chatted 10 minutes ago." hee.

Right. There. With. You.
That recurring thought pattern has died back a lot since I took up dance though. It's a bit like going to a concert where everyone gets to be performer and audience.
