ah, back down to philadelphia. this morning i threw some clothes into a bag, took out the trash, showered (no point, i was sweating as soon as i got out because i'm on the damn 4th floor), and hit the road. the drive down was beautiful, 85 degrees and sunny with very little traffic. i made it to PA in about 5 and 1/2 hours, with 1/4 tank of gas to spare.

stopped in A's store as soon as i hit the willow grove exit. i looked like crap after the long drive, but i didn't care. he was able to take a quick lunch break, and so we sat gazing at each other over pork fried rice in the food court (i know, you all can barf now). it was so nice to see him again, especially so soon... it's going to be tough once we have to go a couple of months without a visit. but for now, we just grinned at each other a lot and held hands and smooched and in general acted like idiots. *grin* oh -- and he gave me a totally schmoopy card that just melted my heart. it's SO getting propped up next to my iMac when i get home.

the rest of the afternoon was lovely. i window-shopped (surprise, surprise), and then got a fabulous mani and pedi at the nail salon on the 3rd floor of the mall. while they were doing my feet, i sat and chatted with the man in the next chair, the only guy i've ever seen getting a pedicure while i was in a salon (good for him... more men need to realize how good it is to have their feet taken care of). he's in his late 40s but looked mid-30s, a big solid black man with a shaved head... reminded me a bit of billy blanks, the guy who created tae-bo. turns out he's high up in the military, and is beiong sent to iraq for a year at the end of this month. he won't have to fight, but he'll still be over there, which is a shame (especially because he'll leave 4 teenaged kids and his wife behind the whole time). i told him to stock up on his pampering over the next few weeks, because he'll be hard pressed to find a pedicure in iraq. *grin*

i was going to have dinner in conshohocken, at a chinese restaurant i used to love, but i changed my mind. driving through town, it wasn't like i remembered... i had remembered conshy as a cute little town... instead, it was depressing. sprawled out, no life to it, nothing going on. especially compared to where i live now in MA. so instead i headed to mom's and went to the chinese place near her... sat by the fish tank, read my great new book ("a devil in the white city"), and ate a ton of sizzling shrimp with steamed rice. the plan for tonight is to fall asleep in front of the tv... now THAT's a vacation.
