sooooo tie-tie.
Aug. 24th, 2008 07:57 pm5 hours at the zoo in the august sun can really do a number on your energy level. took a 2-hour nap this afternoon after we got home, and i'm still a zombie. i behaved myself very well, i didn't try to sneak out with any animals (although it was so tempting when i saw the teeny pigmy marmosets! WANT!!!)... cant say that the other zoo patrons' behavior was as good. besides it being the unoffical Meltdown Day, where it seemed as though every child in attendance was screamingly, sobbingly pissed at something... there were the adults, whose behavior was less excusable -- "NATHAN, NANA WANTS YOU TO COME HERE!!! NATHAN, COME SEE THE TREE FROG! NATHAN! NANA WANTS YOU TO SEE THE FROG!!!!"... "JOEY, LOOK AT THIS PYTHON! THIS SNAKE CAN SWALLOW YOU WHOLE IN 2 MINUTES! OH LOOK, IT'S LOOKING AT YOU!" *child having terrorized screaming fit thinking the snake is going to eat him*
we didn't have much luck with the "zooballoon" either... for the non-philly peeps, the philadelphia zoo has a big helium balloon that you can pay to go up in for 5 minutes and get a great view of the zoo and the city... we waited an hour in line, in the scorching sun, only to be told when we got to the front of the line that they were shutting it down because the winds were getting high up there and it wasn't safe. *sigh*.
but the animals were wonderful, well worth the membership i purchased... i'll just go on a quieter weekday from now on. and next time i won't offer a french fry to a goose, no matter how much my boyfriend insists -- goose bites don't feel good.
in other news -- if you're looking for a fun movie to see, i'd totally recommend "bottle shock". it's based on a true story about a wine tasting in paris in 1976 where california wines swept the competition, which rocked the french wine community to its core. see it if, for nothing else, alan rickman at his alan rickman-y best as the british wine snob who hosted the event. he's glorious.
