* the painter's coming today to check out that spare bedroom and give me a quote... so psyched. i may actually have the room completely overhauled in time for J's trip down from boston in a few weeks! wheeeee!

* jack and i had a lot of fun at musikfest on friday. seriously, taking the day off from work to have the whole day to ourselves was awesome. we slept in (hey, 8am is very late for us), walked to the new little bistro down the street and had breakfast outside, then got a few chores done before heading up to musikfest. musikfest was great in the afternoon, the crowds were light and we could wander around freely... but by 6pm all the after-work crowd had arrived, and you could barely move even to walk from one "platz"* to another. by 7pm everyone was 3 sheets to the wind and acting like jerks, to the point where we left the red elvises show after only 3 sings because all these drunk people were pushing their way up to the front (where we were) and blocking our view and bumping into us. bleh. but no problem, we made our way over to where alo brasil was playing and there was some space on the lawn for me to try out my new travel hoop!

jack rigged this up for me on thursday and i taped it on friday morning... i think it came out really well!

it has a carrying strap too... i walked around musikfest with it all day and it was so easy! there's no way i could have walked around with a full-size hoop in that crowd, and had it with me all day.

as i carried it around, i could see people looking at us and whispering... only a few people (all women) had the guts to come up to us and say, "what is that thing you're carrying?" when we told them it was a hula hoop they got all squealy. :) we're thinking of offering it on the tailspin site, we shall see. one thing i hadn't counted on: the extra stuff in there (more connectors, bungee cord, clamps etc) adds weight to it and makes the hoop about 2 pounds... which means it takes more effort to keep going, and there's more weight pressing into your body. which equals me still being sore two days later. hee.

in other news, last night was the debut of [livejournal.com profile] boutell and [livejournal.com profile] opadit's daughter's band, "iron tree", at the girls rock philly showcase (this is the philly kid version of the rock camp i attended a few weeks ago). they were awesome and much fun was had as we watched these brave kids all get up on stage and play their hearts out., yay!

* every stage area in musikfest (spread out all over downtown bethlehem) is a "platz" of some sort... a square or gathering area for people. so there's things like "handwerkplatz" for the area with the people selling crafts, or "amerikaplatz" for folk music. we started calling everything "platz" -- "hey, i have to use the ladies room, let's go look for peeplatz".
