catch-up stuff...
Jul. 29th, 2004 05:11 pmjust got back from three days of meetings, and lordy, am i tired. but a good tired. i know most people hate meetings, but i love them 'cause it's one of the few times a year i get to see my co-workers. we all work out of our homes, so we rarely are all together... and they're a fun bunch, so our meetings are usually a hoot.
so, for 3 days, it was about 100 of us listening to lectures and doing workshops. the first day was hard, because the meeting didn't start until noon but i had to be there at 8am... i've sort of been nominated the "decorating guru" for our meetings, so i had to get up at 4am and drive the 2 hours to new hampshire to decorate a ballroom (our main meeting room) in red, white and blue stuff. by the time the decorating was finished, i was wiped out... so when the meeting ended at 5pm, i bagged the social stuff (people were walking into town to shop and eat)... ended up taking a long, hot bubble bath, ordering room service, and falling asleep with the tv on around 9pm. bliss.
the second day was long as well, but lots of fun. i had to run two workshops that i had developed around one of our corporate issues, and i was quite nervous because i'd never had to facilitate something for 100 people before. but everyone got involved and had fun, stuff was learned, and a number of people (including my boss's boss) stopped me during the rest of the day and complimented me on what i'd done. so i was really psyched. at 7pm that night, we had fun dinner plans... the managers had chartered a ferry boat to take us around the harbor for a few hours. we all got bundled up for the cool boat air, and i brought along about 50 glo-sticks for people to put on, which made our group look like a preppy corporate rave. we had dinner on the boat, then this awful classic-rock band played for while... it was these 4 middle-aged guys who kept forgetting the words to really well-known songs (like "brown-eyed girl"), and they did these screaming rock-star-esque guitar licks that had us howling. but they played with a lot of heart, and so we all danced our butts off and sang and laughed and had a ball. i didn't want to get off the boat, we had so much fun.
today we all dragged ourselves, exhausted and sore from dancing, through another 1/2 day of lectures and stuff. it was hard to say goodbye to everyone, because they really are a great group of people... but it's also good to be home now. i'll be happy to get back on my normal eating schedule, instead of being at the meeting pig-fest (we're all not used to sitting all day, so we drink way too much coffee and eat lots of candy and dessert). and i get the cats back in a couple of hours, which is so great... i've missed my babies.
coffee-date boy is coming to visit this weekend, to get the grand tour of boston. it'll be so nice to see him again. :happy sigh::
