i've belonged to the "ihearttattoos" LJ community for a few years now. there are some crazy stupid posts that appear there at times (mostly by very young people), and i keep my mouth shut... there's no point in replying to a post where an 18-year-old girl is asking for feedback on her new gigantic chest piece with her favorite band's name in it, because 1. the ink is already done and 2. she'll discover in 6 months just what a dumb idea it was. but this post (http://community.livejournal.com/ihearttattoos/3042123.html) is just making me beat my head on the desk for some reason.

yes, it is sad that someone's boyfriend died in a motorcycle accident. but NO, THE TATTOO WITH HIS NAME IN IT DIDN'T KILL HIM.

sigh.

here's part of the post:

I have heard of the "curse" that when you get a significant other's name tatted on you, you will break up. But has anyone heard of that if you get them tatted on you and they are living, they will die?? Only reason I ask is my best friend got her boyfriend's name tatted on her and a week later they got in a motorcycle accident and he died yesterday. She is freaking out that it is "her fault". I just want to know if anyone else has heard this or if the artist was messing with her...

oh good lord.

are people really that stupid?

:sigh:

I'm dealing with realtors, so I can answer that emphatically and affirmatively: YES THEY ARE.

Shit.

OMG I have totally heard of this too!!! Good thing she asked us so that random anonymous internet users can confirm that the laws of physics don't apply to her friend. Now she can run and tell her friend that yes, it is indeed ALL HER FAULT!

I posted a helpful comment, giving the matter far more dignity than it deserved, in the vain hope that it will inspire her to treat her friend with the tiniest smidge of compassion. Sigh.
