random vacation day = rousing success!

swingchickiewow, i had such an amazing day today. i am now officially sold on the random vacation day -- i may even stop going away for a week here and there so i can take more of these 1-day thingies! let's see, what did i do...
* up at 6am (couldn't help it, jack gets up at 5:30 and i couldn't fall back asleep)
* went to lowe's after breakfast - WOW is lowe's so much better when you're not there on a crowded saturday! i was the only one in the garden center, and wandered around peacefully for an hour, checking out every bush and flower and planning out my back flowerbed. i could take the time to read the tag on each plant, learning how big and wide it would grow and what kind of sunlight it needed and all... it was a blast.
* came home with 2 white hydrangeas, 2 potato vine plants, and 2 "hot chocolate" calla lily bushes (they're stunning, they're like goth lilies!)... spent 2 hours mixing bags of gardening soil into the existing flowerbed, tearing more roots out of the dirt, and digging the holes for the new bushes. they look great, all that's left now is to plant some flower seeds this weekend to fill out the rest of the bed.
* showered and drove to manayunk, which i haven't been to in over a decade... had lunch at an outside table at Le Bus (vegetarian peeps: their brown rice salad is INSANE, so freaking yummy) while reading trashy beauty magazines. spent a couple of hours window-shopping on main street after lunch.
* off to the salon to get a trim and some color (now that i'm growing out my highlights, i have to do the whole-head-haircolor thing, great).
* dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant ("2 meals out in the same day??? she's INSANE!!!") and more trashy beauty magazines!
* walked 2 stores over from the sushi place after dinner to check out the new Steve and Barry's... i'd been wanting to see their deal ever since i heard that sarah jessica parker had designed an uber-cheap clothing line for them. 1/2 hour later i left with a cute striped sarah jessica tee, and another tee that i totally bought for rock camp that says "I'm huge in Japan". BWAhaha!
so, that was my day. i feel so happy and relaxed! whee! now one more workday until the weekend...
