I'm not sure of the method employed to do this, but I have noticed in a few of the video clips presented, that the table they are using has some kind of tablecloth over it, preventing you from seeing under the table. And if there is no tablecloth, then you never get an angle where you can see down there.

Coincidence? Maybe. But... how many people do you know that put tablecloths on coffee tables? hmmmm.... :)

There may be nothing there, but as one commenter noted, you never see the full arc of the popped kernel of corn, just the fact that there is one.

...that is to say, you never get to fully see the kernel go from its pre-popped state to its full, popcorny goodness. It just kinda.... lands there.

Wait a sec... doesn't popcorn kinda... explode when popped? It should take off like a rocket, right?

in the one video, you can see it jump up from the table as it pops. so i believe that it's popping, but probably by a heat source (now that i've read up on it). there's a theory that all of the videos that show people doing it are related... they were all uploaded the same weekend, by people with new youtube accounts. hmmmmm.

The actors are all wearing blue jeans and black shirts, they're all white (like most of the 48-hour Film Project crews, know what I mean? They tend not to be terribly diverse), and they're all reasonably slim and attractive.

First thing I noticed: the tablecloth. Highly suspect as it goes all the way to the floor and is very carefully shaped. My bet is it's hiding something.

Second thing I noticed: the completely stilted and fake dialogue. At best, the "surprise" is completely fake and creepy. At worst, everything is completely fake.

Third thing: the weird, completely scripted comment about how nice the one of the phones is. Uh huh.

And yeah...orange juice. Very odd.

And really, if enough microwaves were being emitted by your phone to pop popcorn, you would know because it would HURT.

yeah, the OJ seemed odd, although my alcoholic brain thought maybe it was a pitcher of screwdrivers. :) and i ttoally agree about the fake dialogue.

i'll have to listen for the comment about the phone, i didn't hear it!
