had to get up at 7am to wait for the termite guy, after an awesome night out last night. he's outside surveying the chompy bug situation now... i'm so going back to bed once he leaves.

last night. where do i start. oh yeah, the philly semifinals of the US air guitar championships. yyyeeeaaaaahhhh boyyyyyyeeee! first, i just have to say that this city is a bunch of asses for not turning out in droves for this. when jack and i showed up, i expected the place to be packed... nope, [livejournal.com profile] jeremym was right up by the stage and the TLA only had a couple hundred people in it. everyone else totally missed out, because it was a hoot. some of the contestants sucked, but some were pretty decent with good gimmicks (like the guy who dressed up like satan from "tenacious d and the pick of destiny"). the 2 guys that had to compete in a second finals round because they were tied for first place were teh awesome, and couldn't have been more different -- one guy wore leather chaps, had a long scraggly beard, and bore a slight resemblance to (as one drunk audience member screamed out) Matisyahu. then there was finalist #2, a dorky, scrawny, harry-potter-shirtless-with-leather pants guy who weighed about 80 pounds and kept losing one of the lenses from his eyeglasses. they were both a blast, but in the end the matisyahu guy completely rocked it out to a song they made each of them perform to on the spot.

the emcee was, i believe, "william ocean" (last year's national champion)... and awesomeness of awesomeness, we were treated to a surprise performance by "bjorn turoque", who was one of the subjects of the "air guitar nation" documentary. but the BEST part was the end of the show, when they invited the audience up on stage to jam to "freebird". jack and [livejournal.com profile] jeremym jumped up there and completely killed it... now i see why jack started guitar lessons recently, because he was a total rockstar up there. i stayed in the crowd and snapped photos with my crappy camera phone... i'm glad i did, because as jack was rocking out, who noticed him and made a beeline over to jam with him but bjorn himself!!! i almost fainted. i'll try to post the few that came out later this weekend... i got a few shots of jack and bjorn that looked pretty cool. :)

oh -- and FU to live nation for misprinting the tickets -- our tix said 9pm, but the doors actually opened at 7. so we missed the opening band that does the heavy metal covers of bee gees tunes. dammit.

after air guitar, the 3 of us headed over to sex dwarf for a couple of hours. jack later begrudgingly admitted that he really liked it. hee! it was a really good night there, lots of people but not the usual packed-to-the-gills crowd that drives me nuts. the "school's out for summer" theme was in full swing, with lots of little plaid dresses and even an awesome chick rocking a sort of aimee mann-meets-cheerleader look. soooooo much fun, awesome music and awesome people as usual.

and wow, there's a whole weekend left, with a heat wave and swimming pool in my immediate future... yay!
