new year's reminders
Jan. 2nd, 2008 06:58 ami'm not doing new year's resolutions this year, since they always get broken... rather, i've decided to give myself a list of reminders to refer to throughout 2008. here they are in abbreviated form:
1. health is of the utmost importance. exercise, fresh healthy food, and lots of water make you feel good. your weight will get under control*, you'll have more energy, you'll sleep better. so get lots of 'em.
2. stress is bad, especially when it's generated from other people. if there are people who stress you out for any reason, either call them on their behavior or gently remove them from your sphere. but letting a person with bad manners, anger issues, or whatever get you worked up is not good for you. you've spent your life bending over backwards for others, even if the others didn't deserve it. that stops this year... toxic people = no-no.
3. you do not need to do everything you want to your house this year. in the spring, you should be able to pay off your car, pay off a credit card, and have enough money to re-grade and re-seed your lawn (which is a necessity)... after that, slow down. the kitchen's been fine for 55 years, it does not need to be torn down and remodeled this year... you do not have to have the entire property landscaped, paid for on credit. save up for some vacations with your man, maybe a road trip or two to boston, because conecting with the people you love and making memories are more important right now than new cabinets and appliances.
4. connect more with family and old friends, because you don't know how long you'll have them. invite your parents to lunch at least once a month. go out for a beer with your brother -- you have never ever hung out with him one-on-one. ask the couple of highschool friends you haven't seen since 1988, who have recently e-mailed you, to get together for dinner and catch up. spend more quality time with the people who mean a lot to you.
5. dance. however you have to work it in to your schedule, do it. it's the biggest thing in the world that fuels you, and you've been ignoring it for too long. pick up your hula hoop when you have 15 minutes to spare, force yourself to drive to swing class once a week. start going back to sex dwarf, even if you'd be dancing by yourself in the middle of the floor. (no-one will be able to tell.)
happy new year, everyone. may 2008 bring you all that you want, and more.
*for anyone who's been on my weight loss filter, i'm going to be posting all of that stuff in a different way now... i'm now the proud owner of thisisntadiet.com, and will be blogging about everything weight/health related over there. i think there's a way to RSS feed it, if you can't do it let me know.
