a few random things while i'm thinking of them:

1. anyone on my friends list making a new year's resolution to lose some weight? i'm going to join weight watchers for the 10 millionth time, so i'm here if anyone needs mutual moral support. there's also an LJ community called ww_over_30 that i'm a part of if anyone needs it.

2. i saw 2 great documentaries in the last week that i wanted to share, in case anyone needs movies for their Netflix queue (they're also available at CrotchBuster):

* "Crazy Love" - if you think you're in a dysfunctional relationship, rent this one. it follows the story of burt and linda pugach, who fell in love in the late '50s and had a tumultuous relationship... when linda got engaged to another man, burt hired someone to throw lye in her face, which left her blind, disfigured and bald. what does she do after the horrible incident? marry him when he gets out of prison. seriously, you can't make this stuff up. (and -- not only is it a great story, all you fashionistas out there will absolutely die when you see all the photos of her in her teens and 20s... she was gorgeous, and had amazing taste in clothes.)

* "Maxed Out" - this documentary about how americans are falling deeper and deeper into credit card debt didn't have anything surprising in it for me... but putting everything you know about debt all in one place really made it hit home. yes, we all have a lot of credit cards. yes, the cost of living has gone up more than wages, so we can't make ends meet as easily. yes, colege students are prime targets for credit card companies. but by the end of it, i was already mapping out a plan to start paying off my debts more aggressively. one thing i didn't know: there's a new type of credit coming out, where you borrow against your pension. sweet baby jesus.

3. i'm off to get a broken filling re-filled at the dentist. needles full of novacaine make me go waaaaaah. i'm going to be a drooling mess for my dance class tonight, i'm sure.

Crazy Love was great, it took me a while to get through the whole new york jewish accent (if it were an irish southie accent there would be no problem) but after that I loved it.

I agree Maxed Out was nothing new, but I enjoyed getting a chuckle seeing stupid people bury themselves by spending money they don't have. I haven't had a credit card in 20 years and still feel its the way to go.
