MUCH better!

took my first davanced WCS class with john festa last night. finally, a class that i'll go to regularly! it's wasn't difficult, but i did learn a little new variation on something, which was cool. he's a much nicer guy than i thought he'd be (anecdotes from friends who have seen him DJ led me to that), and his teaching style is certainly different -- at one point while he watched me dance, he was like, "levitate!!! LEVITATE when you move down the slot!" and he grabbed my ass with both hands and pulled it upwards as he pushed me forwards. we both cracked up. i was like, "um, hard to levitate when you're carrying around 70 extra pounds!"

so, i'm psyched. and inspired enough to go dancing this sunday, and maybe check out some of the NJ/NY dances in another few months once i have my dance mojo back.

Could be my obliviousness kicking in again, but I've always though John was a sweetie. I don't know him well, but he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously.

How, exactly, does one levitate one's way down the slot?

several boston peeps have told me that he was kind of a jerk to them when they requested songs during his DJ sets. *shrug* he was super-nice last night, which was cool to see. i like him.

i think blake hobby is the epitome of "levitate"... she just sort of glides, whereas i thunder down the slot like a herd of elephants. (until john fixed it last night, anyway.)

Yeah. Festa has a pretty defined view of swing music and that view is often opposite current WCS musical trends. Fortunately for me, I tend to agree with Festa.

His classes are completely awesome. I've only been able to take an occasional workshop, but they've always been great. I'm jealous that you get to see him on a weekly basis.
