goth baby shower

i totally forgot to post about the goth baby shower last weekend... it was a ton of fun, and the expecting couple were just the nicest. (the dad-to-be works with jack, so i know him... but not very well.) their friends were really nice and welcoming, considering that jack and i were the outsiders who knew no-one... turns out i even knew one of the guests in a roundabout way, he worked on some of the research for a product i used to be responsible for training at my company. we work in the same building, but didn't know each other. go figure.

but the most amazing thing about the day was their house... oh my GOD, their house!



photos just don't do it justice, and jack and i didn't want to be losers and wander around taking pix of all their stuff. but the place was gorgeous, and perfect for them. it was a big stone mansion in the woods, and on the inside looked just like the addams family house -- oriental rugs, candelabras, chandeliers, giant portrait paintings framed in chunky gold scroll-y frames, black and burgundy brocade curtains in every room's entryway. amazing. turns out they bought the house with her mother, and the mom is super-artsy-goth-y herself, so many of the furnishings are hers. more photos are here on jack's flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8419941@N02/sets/72157602625033814/

you can see in the b&w photo that the back lawn is actually 3 tiers... so at one time, there were food and drinks on the upper tier, bocce in the middle, and croquet on the lower lawn. as it got darker, one guest brought out his poi and spun for everyone (darn, i wish i'd had my hoop), and the host couple brought some fireworks out of the garage and set them off. it was just such a lovely time, with really interesting people.
