weekend recap
Aug. 5th, 2007 09:23 pmhard to believe the summer is winding down! eek! managed to make the weekend relax-y and fun at the same time:
saturday morning i hooped for the first time in about a month. it was awesome to get back into it, and i was thrilled to find that instead of going back a couple of steps, i've actually improved a bit. (perhaps i need to just hoop 1x/month to get really good?!?) i think it's because i do a lot of visualization -- when i hear music that i'd love to hoop to, i imagine how i'd dance to it... i think that's been helping me to make some links between body and mind even though i haven't been able to practice. i'm getting better at the "limbo", and barrel rolling between that and the booty bump. my upper-body (shoulder and chest) hooping has improved as well, i don't have to move quite so spastically to get the hoop to spin up there. :)
hoop-friendly songs i'm really grooving to right now:
"female of the species" by space
"alphabet street" by prince
"favourite shirts (boy meets girl)" by haircut 100
"dare" by gorillaz (this is my absolute favorite song at the moment, i LOOOOVE it)
saturday afternoon was BBQing and karaoke revolution and abusing
ms_violet's hoop at
jeremym's pad... then off to feasterville for jack's first rollergirls bout. it was a good one, with the broad street butchers making a valiant attempt to even the score during the few final jams... but wow, was it a fall-y night for both teams. it was non-stop skates-in-the-air, fishnets-flying-into-the-crowd action. and jack even had Summer Assault land half in his lap, half under his chair. hee. oh, and for the philly peeps -- john debella (formerly of the WMMR morning zoo) was sitting right behind us. even the local celebs like their roller derby, i guess!
today we had a spurt of work around the house... my dad and bro came over to shovel all the mulch from my chopped-up trees into my flower beds, jack made the bases for 7 or 8 hoops so i could decorate them this week, and i started cleaning out the storage room that will become my hoop work room. i can't wait to have it painted and decorated and ready to go!
hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead... *mwah*
