my new travel hoop and instructional DVD shipped out yesterday. within a few days i should be gyrating sexily and doing amazing hoop tricks (yeah... more like getting pissed off at the damn thing, and knocking over every vase and lamp in my living room). i might end up having to get another hoop as well, because i read some board posts that said the travel hoops sometimes buckle at the joints (not good for a beginner)... but i'll try and see. hell, i'm ready to spent $250 on one of those LED hoops, but there's no way i can justify it (besides the fact that they LIGHT UP OMGBUNNIES11!!ONEONE).
no hoop classes to be found in philly. darn. but the DVD will do just fine for a start. last night i burned a great practice CD of bhangra, lounge, electronica, and even some madonna thrown in. yes, i am doing my typical new-hobby obsessive thing... i've already spent hours on youtube checking out videos, and looking at everything on the hooping boards to see what kind of community is out there. i'm really looking forward to this -- the exercise, getting back in touch with my body, just trying something new. and it doesn't require too much from my ouchy shoulder, so i can transfer all that pole dancing excitement from back in december (alas) to this.
speaking of my shoulder -- i had my MRI on monday (totally freaky experience, eek) and couldn't get a follow-up appointment with my doctor until 2 days before my cruise. darnit. i asked that he call me today, because one of the shore excursions i picked is a bit physical and i'll need to change it right away if i'm not supposed to do it. oh, i'll be so bummed if that's the case. but better to find out now and make changes, than 2 days before the cruise and be out the extra $100 i paid for that particular excursion. cross your fingers and toes i can still go!

Date: 2007-04-04 08:06 pm (UTC)You probably already discovered hooping.org..I made my own hoop (well, with help from Scott) Irrigation tubing and some clamps..easy and cheap. And you can customize it to your size, or add more water. And decorate it! Next project is to make a collapsible travel hoop like you have.
I also just ordered a DVD instructional video (from hoopgirl) Out of all the hobbies and and things I've tried, (Poi spinning, middle eastern dance, etc..I get obsessed also! I've also scanned Youtube for all things hooping related) I like hooping the best. There's something about that nice weight swinging around your waist that's really soothing yet energizing. It's amazing all the various moves one can do with a simple hoop.
Warning: Do NOT check out fire hooping videos because then you'll want to do *that* one day ; )
