i was reading an article recently where the author talked about having a "theme song"... either one that really accurately defines your life, or calms you down when you're stressed, or alters your mood in some other way. think "ally mcbeal", when one of them would need to feel pumped up about something and barry white music would start playing in their head.

mine would have to be "september" by earth, wind & fire. every time i hear that song, i stop in my tracks and start bouncing around and singing. just the other night when i was out to dinner with a girlfriend, i was sitting there full and exhausted at the end of a long day... and "september" came on, and i completely perked up again and boogied in my seat like an idiot. so... yeah. september. it makes me so insanely happy.

so... what's your theme song?

Never was a cloudy day!

Good question. A theme song ... Hmm, I'm going to have to think about this. But "September" is one of my personal favorites, too. Actually, I like Earth, Wind & Fire in general (and their trademark "yow" in almost every song).

Well, i'm not sure what it used to be - but as for what it is now, that's easy: Sex Dwarf by Soft Cell.

"My Babe," by Home Cooking. There are lots of other songs that perk me and get me going (I'm very aural), too, but I believe that's my #1 by a nose. Ear. Whatever.

I WANNA BE AN OSCAR MAYER WEEEEE-NNEERRRRRR!!!!!

Sorry for yelling. Sometimes I have it in my own voice, sometimes in the commercial voice, but most often my mom's voice (she'll get a song stuck in her head and sing it over and over and over and over for weeks).

As much as I despise the sticks called actors in Ally McBeal, I have to admit I often have some song or another running through my head, especially after court. And I >do< have to resist dancing along to it (or worse, if it's a song with claps, clapping at the appropriate time). Fortunately for me, I'm in a crazy enough office that no one really minds if I do the Bunny Hop through the elevator lobby.

REM's "Finest Worksong" was, well, my song for getting work done for a good long while. Like the high school couples who slow-danced to "The One I Love," I'm vaguely aware I'm probably missing an irony somewhere, but I don't really care.

If I have a theme song right now, it's this salsa number that I can't make out any of the words to. I could, like, hum it for you...

"Don't Let's Start."

Why:

I'm not really sure what it's about.

and

it has the phrase "Everybody dies, frustrated and sad, and that is beautiful."

And.. it's so CATCHY ! !! !

Were you reading the January issue of Real Simple?

I don't know what my theme song would be... it changes all the time. Must think about this...
