let me back up for a sec. so, it's not my birthday yet, there's another week to go... but sex dwarf (the awesome 80's new wave dance night i go to every month) was just too close to not celebrate there. so i threw out an invite to the local peeps to do dinner and dancing last night.
dinner was at gianna's, this teeny hole-in-the-wall that serves not only vegan food, but the meatiest meat-laden pizza i've ever had in my life. we're talking full-size strips of bacon, people! a handful of us crammed around a couple of tables in the back (
dhpdesign thought it was hysterical that i'd called to make a reservation, i didn't know it was a DIVE) and tore a couple of pizzas apart like vultures. partytom, ever the excellent friend (and resident alca-tarian), snuck in a 6-pack of beer:
beer? what beer? nothin' to see here but ketchup and mustard...

and
boutell surprised me with one of his awesome from-scratch chocolate cakes!

after stuffing ourselves silly, we headed back to
dhpdesign's place to put on our costumes. now, since sex dwarf is an 80's dance night, the costume party was "come as an 80's new wave star". so... we went as the go-go's from the cover of the "beauty and the beat" album!

from top, left to right:
dhpdesign,
boutell,
shellefly, moi, and
sarcasmoscorner
the costume was a huge hit... although some people had to ask us what we were. *chuckle* i have to say, i was really impressed with some of the costumes:
devo guy (there were a number of devo hats, but this guy was the only one to do the full outfit)

robert smith (this guy looked so much like him, it was freaky)

adam ant (jesus, this was so HAWT)

two david byrnes!

and the BEST COSTUMES OF THE NIGHT...
xtingu and
mrl24 as hall and oates! god, i am laughing out loud as i type this.

dj robert drake (
southstman) made a kick-ass klaus nomi:

annie lennox!

the platform in the middle of the club got a SERIOUS workout last night... every time a song came on, the person/s in the corresponding costume jumped up there to go nuts. "vacation" played pretty early , so we were able to get up there before it got too wacky (see
dhpdesign)'s LJ for photos of us on the platform courtesy of robert).
hall and oates got up for a bit (yes, i am still giggling as i type):

boutell and devo guy led the entire club in the time warp at one point:

siouxie and adam ant (okay, seriously, whoever knows the adam ant guy, please tell him to dress this way ALL THE TIME, because it is HAWT. SWEET BABY JESUS.)

pink birfday cupcakes!

"oates" was having a bit of a challenge eating her cupcake with the 'stache...

"one of these things just doesn't belong here..." (note mark's shirt on the right... it was ribbed! rrrowrrr!)

this was partytom's "costume":

he decided to come dancing while we were at the pizza place, but hadn't brought a costume for the club:
partytom: i didn't bring anything to change into.
me: just pretend that IS your costume.
PT: and then everybody will be asking me who i am...
me: just keep telling them to guess, it'll drive them crazy all night!
PT: i'll give them a clue: "i briefly dated olivia newton-john"...
by 1am i was dead on my feet and had to crash. i'm glad i'd mustered up the energy to go, because it was a blast.
swingdoc and
jeremym, we missed you!!!!! but there will be more sex dwarf parties, oh yes there will!
