FRIDAY!!!!!

swingchickiewa-freakin-HOO!!!! this has been one ass-drag of a week, and i am so psyched for the weekend. going to see "dodgeball" tonight with some friends, can't wait... tomorrow morning i'm getting a makeover at sephora (to do with the new ultra-short 'do) and then getting manis and pedis with one of my girlfriends, then we're going for happy hour cocktails after. should be a hoot.
i bought some stunning jewelry today. a ring and earrings made of "twilight topaz" (smoky copper/purple iridescent stone) set in white gold... i've never spent more than $100 on a piece of jewelry (my silver ring from tiffany), but today i splurged $250 for the set. they're gorgeous, i just keep staring at how sparkly the ring is.
this morning i had a heartbreaking conversation with a woman in a doctor's office, she started talking to me while we were sitting there waiting... told me that her son's been in a coma for 6 years because of some stupid girl who ran a red light out of road rage and slammed into the side of his car. it was the day after the prom, he was 18 and an honors student, and was going to be a college football player that fall. instead, he's now 24 and in a coma in a nursing home, and his arms are curling up in front of him like a praying mantis from atrophy. oh, and the girl who hit him? walked away from the accident, and got her license suspended. that's it. oh, AND... they medivac-ed him to the hospital, and somewhere from the helicopter to to the ER, his wallet was stolen. can you believe it? they had him listed as a homeless person, because he had no ID when he was brought in. this poor mother was in tears talking about her son, and all i, a stranger, could do was sit there and go "uh huh..." and lend an ear. i felt so helpless.
i wonder if my jewelry purchase was a subconscious pick-me-up after that conversation this morning. hm.
