the daily grind
Aug. 16th, 2006 07:05 amthis week has been an interesting one. my boss is out, i have no class in session, and no urgent projects looming over my head... so i've been able to be at work at 8:30 and leave around 5:30. i almost feel like i'm on vacation, it's really freaky to not be pulling 13-hour days. i was actually in the office until around 7 the other night, not because i had to get something done... but because i'm so used to working that late, i didn't even look at the clock. too funny.
yesterday i had to cash out my AMEX rewards points, as my company's not participating in that program any more. we have to pay for it each year, but i guess the company will save money of some sort if it's not even offered. so i went online to see what i could get. after paying $75 a year for 3 years, my points got me a whopping $175 in store gift cards (home depot, natch). so i basically lost money by doing the program, darnit.
ooh, but i also got a problem fixed, and i'm psyched -- years ago, they had a deal where you could cash in 20,000 points for a delta plane ticket anywhere in the continental US... i switched the points, and a couple of years ago called delta to look into using the ticket, and was told that the code was incorrect. i forgot about it until recently, and so on the phone with AMEX yesterday they gave me the correct code. soooooo... i have a free plane ticket to use, perhaps next year, when i didn't even think i'd be able to afford going away because of my mortgage and everything! i'm thinking maybe the florida keys in the spring? or los angeles? somewhere i can really cut loose... i need to think up some vacation ideas...
