it was an interesting 4 days. it was wonderful to be back, and i could already see changes in the area in just the 4 months since i'd last been there. condo buildings popping up left and right... restaurants and stores that have closed down and already been replaced. crazy. yet in all of that, some things haven't changed, like the people in the community... when i went to my old neighborhood, within 5 minutes i'd run into several people i knew, including the super of my old apartment building. made me feel like i was home. :)

i worked thursday and friday with a couple of reps i knew out in the field, and spent the evenings catching up with friends. thursday night went into davis square (my old 'hood... *weep*) to have dinner at dragon garden with J, L1 and L2, and just had a blast. we've all been busy, so the 3 of them hadn't seen each other much since i'd moved... so it was a big catch-up session for all of us. we basically spent 2 hours laughing our butts off and shouting over and over again, "I'VE MISSED YOU GUYS!!!" after dinner we went dancing in arlington... i was totally out of practice, but had an amazing time.

friday night was J2's (my old ex's) birthday dinner in harvard square... he had no idea i was coming, we'd all kept it a secret for weeks... the surprise was perfect, i snuck up behind the gang while they were standing outside the restaurant and popped up with a big grin on my face, and he was just totally shocked. :) we had a great time at dinner, and he loved the 2 ties i'd bought him in the netherlands (even though i'd packaged them in a glitter-coated gift bag with disney princesses all over it, hee).

saturday was errands and getting my nails done in davis, then off to the movies with J, L1 and L2... part of our friendship is that we always see cheesy teen dance-y movies together ("bring it on", "save the last dance", etc.), so we HAD to see "take the lead" while i was in town! it actually didn't suck, and since we were pretty much the only people in the theater, we laughed and cheered as loud as we wanted. saturday night was drinks and tapas at the red fez with K from work, then an early beddy-bye so i could get on the road early this morning.*

of course, it wouldn't be one of my posts unless i balanced all the fun with a big downer or two. the trip was also an interesting learning experience for me... i learned that many (okay, most) of the work friends i had in boston were not really "friends". for drinks on saturday night, i e-mailed maybe 9 or 10 people to come out, people whom i counted as true friends, who i was really excited to see. of those 10 people, one told me she was busy, 3 said they'd come out, and the rest never even e-mailed back to say "i'm busy". they just never bothered responding. of the 3 people who said they'd come out, only one showed up -- K. needless to say, i'm really disappointed and hurt, but it was a good lesson on who my true friends are.

second downer: every night there, i had a dream about monkey. so every morning i woke up upset. last night's was a full-blown nightmare, involving a very much alive monkey being strapped down for butchering in a meat processing plant. i must have been crying in my sleep, because i woke up from that one with swollen eyes and a raging headache. and i cried pretty much the whole drive home. *sigh*.

i never thought i'd say this, but it's good to be back.

*by the way... no lie... the first song on the radio as i got on the mass pike to head back? elton john's "philadelphia freedom". hee.
