swingchickie: (hasselhoff)
friday afternoon, jack called me at work: "i just got home and my neighbors have a sign out that they're yard sale-ing tomorrow... want to bring over all of that yard sale stuff you've been collecting and do a joint one?" a couple of hours later, i showed up at his house with a car packed with stuff in the hopes i could unload some of it the next morning. it was "eh", we're past yard sale season so most of the shoppers we got were people who drove by and stopped. i ended up making $45 which jack and i blew (and then some) on a BBQ dinner date that night. the rest of it went back in the car and over to my local thrift store in the hopes that they'd have more luck in selling it all.

all i have to say about the yard sale is -- if you want to meet a fascinating cross-section of americans, have a yard sale. if only i'd had a hidden camera set up, i could have turned it over to [livejournal.com profile] ms_violet and she'd have enough wacky characters for her next 100 plays.

sunday was grilling with jack and my dad, then a red elvises concert. rest of the time in-between was spent going *squeeeeeee* at the fact that i was highlighted on the home page of hooping.org... the views on youtube had jumped to over 600 as of last night, and i've now met (virtually) a woman who lives near jack who's looking for people to hoop with. hee!

ETA: hooping.org just unblinded all the comments on my video over the weekend... thanks you guys for writing in, you're so sweet!!! jack's in particular almost made me cry. *swoon*

i almost forgot to post this story from the weekend's yard sale: towards the end of our morning, an older gentleman (in his 60s maybe) bought my computer bag. he, jack and i only said a few sentences among us, he gave me his $5, and left. maybe 90 minutes later jack and i were packing the unsold items in my car for my trip to unload them at the thrift shop... and jack came around from the front of his house with a confused smile on his face. turns out that while he was out front, the computer bag man came back... and cryptically said to him, "i've heard about you people... i represent someone else." and handed him a pamphlet on jesus and walked away. huh? "you people"? then it hit me -- at the yard sale i'd been wearing my favorite t-shirt of jack's, a coop designed shirt with a cartoon devil on the front. obviously not everyone understands lowbrow art. oh well.

totally unrelated -- i've joined weight watchers online after all kinds of peer pressure from [livejournal.com profile] ms_violet to join with her. (okay, more like she told me she joined and i was all "wheeee! me too!") the site has grown up a lot since i quit it last year, it's much faster and bug-free (the darn thing always froze up on me before and i gave up). it'll be nice to get back on track and see who's on the bulletin boards... and they have some good recipes, including a pork stew one i'm going to crockpot tonight. yay!
