Aug. 21st, 2008 05:56 pmwell, so much for a productive day off of gardening and housework. i hit lowe's first thing in the morning, got my mulch and fertilizer and mums, and tore into my side flowerbed when i got home... cleared most of it of weeds (some of them are so huge and entrenched, all i could do was chop them down to a tump and see if jack can dig them out later) until i was sweaty and covered with dirt... then i grabbed my shovel and drove it into the ground. 3 inches in, i hear *tink*... *tink*... and the shovel's not grabbing anything. i think the darn flowerbed was actually put over concrete. *headsmack* obviously i can't plant mums in only 3 inches of dirt, so if jack confirms that it's solid under there (and not just that it's a rock or two and i'm a weakling) then i have to figure out where else the mums can go (and what the hell you can plant in only 3 inches of dirt).
so with my gardening abrupty ended, i showered and ran some errands... then came home, threw a roast in the crockpot, and passed out for a 2-hour nap. woke up to find my tree guy out in my yard grinding up the leftover roots from last year's giant "tree purge", and an e-mail in my inbox from a guy who wants to give me $75 for the rusty old chiminea on my deck that the previous owners left behind. win.
now i'm just waiting for jack to come over, which is a big yay since i haven't seen him in 4 days. :) so not the most exciting day off ever, but at least it was a day off!
ETA: my boyfriend rules. one hour after he came over, i had a beautifully planted and mulched flowerbed of mums. yay!
