swingchickie: (house)
woke up this morning definitely feeling the effects of all of yesterday's bending and pulling in the flowerbed. jack and i went to guitar center at 8am to take advatntage of their big annual 1-day sale (he got a nice new amp), had a crappy greasy breakfast at cracker barrel (god that place is depressing), and then headed to lowe's to raid the aisles -- cement to fix my mailbox, a new hose, and hoop materials (i'm cooking up a special and i want to have everything at the ready in case it takes off). then it was home to spend another day making stuff around the house all better.

jack's friend and neighbor B (one of the guys who helped rebuiold my roof last fall) came over for a couple of hours to help jack out... jack had tried to fix my mailbox last week, and it needed to be re-done. he had poured concrete into a hole in order to stabilize the post, but when he tried to drill into it the other day it all crumbled... so B and jack had to chip out all of the concrete bit by bit and start over. and after they mixed and poured the new batch and left it to set, they drove me to sears hardware so i could buy a new dishwasher (B has a big van so we could save the shipping charges). they were such an enormous help! and while they were dealing with the concrete issues, i was in the back digging weeds and turning over the rest of the dirt in my back flowerbed. even though i was exhausted and sunburnt, the work was so satisfying -- the whole bed was just a mess of crap, so clearing out all the broken tiles and pieces of lumber and other random crap that had been buried in there over the years felt awesome. especially the roots, every once in a while i'd hit a massive network of them that spanned over several feet and i'd get to pull them up like a giant shredded, tangled blanket. it was the same sort of satisfaction you get when you're sunburnt and you manage to pull off a nice long piece of peeling skin... you're like "awwww yeah! look at that one!"

up this week after work: finally planting some seeds back there. then i'll feel accomplished. for now, i need to rest... i'm thinking a cruise with the top down to barnes & noble is in order, so i can get some new magazines... then some takeout water ice from rita's, and a night with said waterice and magazines in front of the TV. that'll be a nice way to end the long weekend.
