halloweenyness
Nov. 1st, 2007 06:57 amhalloween was fun this year, i spent it at jack's handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters. i love halloween, but in a selfish "i like to dress up crazy" way, not a "i like to give candy to little darlings" way. i think kids in their halloween costumes are awesome, i get a kick out of seeing what they (or their parents) came up with... but i just get really cranky from the total lack of manners i see now. most kids don't even say "thank you" for the candy you give them, the PARENTS yell it from the sidewalk (when what they should be doing is teaching the KIDS to say it, darnit). it takes all the joy out of it for me.
anyway, jack really REALLY loves halloween, and he goes crazy every year decorating his porch for the big night... then his neighbor/best friend B comes over with his family, and they all take part in the candy-handing-out ritual. it was really fun to see in action -- they made the porch into a sort of haunted house, and they were all dressed up in really freaky/scary costumes -- big skull heads, grim reaper cloaks, and jack even made it look like he had a bleeding bullet hole in his forehead (i didn't get the memo on that one, and showed up in blue-leopard-and-glitter cat ears... i stayed in the shadows so i didn't ruin the theme). the front lawn was a graveyard, with gray styrofoam tombstones and fog (courtesy of 2 giant fog machines that jack built himself)... and then there was "marcus the carcass", a plastic light-up dead guy who looks like he's climbing out of a grave in the lawn. the porch was covered with giant fake spiders, one of which was rigged to drop on people when they came up the steps. it was a riot. the girls were really getting into it, playing dead in the graveyard and then sitting up whenever people came up the sidewalk to scare the daylights out of them.
oh -- and jack replaced the bulbs in his living room lights with blacklight, so we could test out the blacklight hoop i put on the website. it looked freaking awesome. towards the end of the evening, we all went inside and hooped to get warm. hee!
i have a ton of photos that i took with my new camera... i'll post them once i figure out how to load them (i can be a bit technologically challenged).
