hoop shipment mysery, solved.
Sep. 1st, 2007 02:18 pmi looooove the hooping folks on tribe.net, everyone is so willing to help everybody. i posted a freaked-out "hey, how do you ship a hoop???" post yesterday, and found out the secret: since a hoop is an irregular package, the post office needs to measure length (the diameter of the hoop) and girth (which is not the girth of the whole hoop, as i had thought, but just the girth of the tubing). those dimensions, plus the weight of the hoop (2 pounds), gives us a magical number of just under $10. yay!
even better than the shipping victory, though, was the reaction of the postal workers. word spread that there was a lady shipping the biggest hula hoop they had ever seen, and postal workers started all coming out from the back to see. the questions were flying: "why is it so big?" "what colors can you do one in?" "how much are they?" by the time i left the counter, i'd given out a couple of business cards, and several of the ladies wanted one for themselves and/or their daughters. i'm really getting a kick out of the fact that i now make something that can bring people such joy. :)
