me and my minions
Jun. 23rd, 2007 11:10 pmwhile i was in miami this past week, it was like i had a team of people taking care of my house until i returned. mom offered to water the flowers on my deck, but couldn't figure out how to turn on my hose... so, being the awesome mom that she is, she drove to the supermarket and bought 6 gallons of spring water to make sure they were taken care of. they are the most pampered flowers EVER.
before i came back, unbeknownst to me, jack went over to my house over a couple of days... armed with a ladder, a saw, and various other tools, he chopped down the basketball net by my driveway (he knew i hated it). the thing was filled all the way through with concrete, and must have weighed a million pounds... but he took care of it as a surprise to me, and it looks sooo much better. he also (again, as a surprise) fixed my toilet, which had been running on and off since i bought the house. what a doll.
but the most DRAMATIC thing was that my tree service started work on those evil trees the day i was due back... so when i came home, the job was already halfway done! everything's finished now, and i swear, it's like i'm living in a different house. the side that all those trees were on is *sunny* now... i can actually plant grass this fall! all the maple tree roots that snaked along my backyard have been torn up. and best part: that awful 50-foot pine tree in front of my house won't be able to drop sap and needles all over my car and driveway, and threaten to fall onto my house during every storm (i swear, if trees had personalities, that one would be an asshole. i gave it the middle finger before i left for miami).
my dad happened to come over to water the flowers while the guys were doing their work... when he saw what was going on, he ran home to grab his camera and came all the way back to he could document it. it's AMAZING what went on, i wish i'd been there! so, here's a picture of my house last summer... you can see the evil pine tree in the foreground on the right:

( now here's what happened to that tree, and 5 others! )
