i'm really glad i took an extra vacation day this week (originally i was just going to take tomorrow off). i slept like crazy... woke up naturally at 6am and was thiiiis close to getting up, but i forced myself back to sleep and didn't get up again until 8:30. wow, i felt so well-rested. that is, until around 1:30pm, when i crashed again and took a 2-hour nap. i guess my body's trying to tell me something.

since i had today off, i went west coast swing dancing in NJ last night. what a disappointment. i had heard wednesdays in NJ were good, but obviously driving an hour each way to dance mid-week is not really feasible with my schedule. so i was psyched to be able to go last night. i got there in time for the intermediate/advanced lesson, where they taught us... a basket whip. a move that is taught at a beginner level in boston, is considered advanced here. i had to stifle yawns throughout the entire lesson. and the instructors are nice, but not very good... they were illustrating a standard side pass at one point, and showed it as an EIGHT-count move (and no, they were not stretching it out to be cool, they were making a mistake). i was so disappointed and bored, i left 1/2-hour into the dance... and i felt bad, one of the instructors grabbed me as i was leaving and asked who i was and where i'd learned to dance, and said she hoped i'd come back soon. that was really sweet, but i think the only time i'll go back there is for their monthly dance (when there are a few true intermediate-level dancers there). i'm sure i sound like a dance snob, and i don't want to... but to drive an hour each way, and spend $6 on gas, $3 on tolls, and $15 for a lesson and dance, and not have fun... i was just so bummed as i drove all the way home.

in other NJ news, i got the scoop on the rollergirls tryouts (dublin carbomb is a doll), and it looks like it's going to be a no-go for me this time. the time commitment is huge (understandably) -- while you're in training, you have to go to at least 2 practices a week (minimum 7/month), which start at 7pm in camden. so i'd have to leave work twice a week at 5pm in order to make it... between my travel and regular work schedule, that ain't gonna happen. so i'll take the next few months to practice and get through the rest of this crazy year, and then see what my schedule is like when the next tryouts roll around. meh.
