i joined classmates.com a number of years ago, and e-mailed a bunch of folks last year in a fit of nostalgia... but only heard back from 1 or 2 people from high school. i haven't gone on the site since then, and forgot all about my membership. until this morning.

i just caught up on all my e-mails from the last week, including an e-mail that i only use to sign up for websites and stuff so that all my spam goes to one place. as i was hitting "delete" over and over again, i went to get rid of a classmates.com e-mail, thinking it was spam... until i saw the subject title: "C___ H___ has sent you a message." holy CRAP.

"CH" went to school with me during my middle school years in kuwait. and he was HAWT. i know i'm saying this about a 12-year-old boy... but i just looked at my yearbook again, and confirmed that yes, as 12-year-old boys go, he was a looker. i had a massive crush on him for a while in 6th grade, to the point where i was terrified to talk to him because i didn't know what babble was going to come out of my mouth. it's so funny. and now look at this... a simple innocuous e-mail from him saying hi after almost 25 years, and i immediately feel like i'm 11 years old again. that twisty feeling in the pit of my stomach came back, and i'm grinning from ear to ear.

it's just so funny how little we change in some ways, even after 25 years. i guess it confirms that i'm not crazy for still feeling like a 15-year-old dork inside. i just didn't know that the dork feelings from my younger years were still there too. *grin*

what a great way to end a week-and-a-half vacation. i had a really good low-key day today... picked up angus from the kennel in the morning (he's been happily talking to himself all day) and packed up all the xmas decorations... got the aforementioned e-mail from my 6th grade crush... had a nummy south beach-friendly lunch at red lobster (grilled salmon and shrimp, with double veggies and a salad)... then went shopping at crate and barrel, armed with several gift cards i got for xmas. i walked out of there with some sparkly candles (half price from xmas), a gorgeous set of table linens, and a much-needed plastic pitcher. the best part though, was when i paid at the register -- the sales gal asked to see my ID, and when i handed over my license, she gasped, "you're from marshfield???" "i just moved here, i was actually in somerville before this," i told her. "i'm from weymouth!" she grinned. then the sales gal next to her chimed in, "omigod, i'm from allston!" there was much squealing all around. *grin*

i got a phone call from KB today *happy dance*, inviting me to a dinner party at his friend's tomorrow night (i met the friend at karaoke last week). the classic twist: it's a vegan dinner, and i'm allergic to tofu... and it starts at 7, and i might have to work late. so i had to be a pain in the ass and e-mail the friend (at KB's suggestion) and go, "can i come late? and will there be any non-tofu food there?" turns out yes and yes, so i'll stop by for a bit. i'm really psyched to see everyone, they're such a fun group.

for now, i'm going to scrounge up some dinner (taco salad, still trying to be south beachy) and try to get ready for work tomorrow... ugh.
