party postmortem
Nov. 5th, 2005 09:52 amsoooooo much fun last night. wow, it was a blur. but it went exactly as i'd hoped. and now i'm exhausted and sore and wanna go back to bed!
i got to the club early, around 8pm, to set up the cupcakes i'd had delivered and see what else needed to be done. we were smack dab in the middle of the first floor of the club, at a really long table that went down the center of the room. the table was lined with candles and flowers, and i set up a few cupcake stations down the line, on gold doilies. the cupcakes were decorated with big poofy swirls of pink icing, and dusted with real gold dust, so in the candlelight they totally glowed. they were gorgeous. and actually, before everyone got there, one of my dancer friends and i had to play "cupcake police" and shoo people away from them... random people were just walking up to the table, which had "reserved" signs all over it, and trying to go for the cupcakes. i actually had to take one out of a girl's hand!
people started arriving around 9, when i already had 2 kir royales in me (courtesy of the club management, very sweet). a few people brought cards and gifts, which was a pleasant surprise because i had specifically asked for no cards or gifts or anything. (and pretty much every card had some combination of martinis, cats, or glitter on them. my friends know me so well.) within about a half hour, almost everyone was there, and i had to balance making the rounds to see everyone, and dancing with whoever asked. there was one point that was a riot... i started dancing with someone in a little patch of space we had by the table, and it turned into a total steal jam. it was a ball, and my non-dancer friends were awed. for the rest of the night, strangers in the club were coming up to me and wishing me a happy birthday (they must've asked someone what was going on), and telling me, "wow, it was so cool how you were able to dance from guy to guy like that." i guess it looked like i was flitting from person to person, when it was really all the guys grabbing me out of each others' hands. *chuckle*
so, everyone had a ball. there was lots of dancing, non-dancers grabbing dancers to get out on the floor and bust a move... there was some crazy flirting going on... and lots of nummy gold cupcakes and champagne cocktails and martinis. the only bummer was that i wasn't able to really talk with some of the people who came. now i understand when people say that about their weddings.
i'll post pix maybe tonight... now i gotta go buy a car...
