yesterday i started my new eating and exercise program. based on oprah's "boot camp" that's she's doing, the goal is to start eating healthier and exercising more, and finally getting my ass in gear. there are a few basic principles:
1. no eating 2-3 hours before bedtime.
2. no refined/processed foods. basically, if it's white (bread/sugar etc.), don't eat it.
3. eat lean protein, vegetables, and whole grains, and 2 fruits/day.
4. exercise 45 minutes a day for 6 days a week, with 2 extra half-hour sessions on 2 of the days.
5. drink 6 glasses of water a day.
6. don't weigh myself for the 1st 2 months (eek! hard!)
7. in the first 3 months, can have 3 cheat day of either alcohol or carbs.
so, i'm really hopeful. this'll force me to cook a lot more (or to have D cook for me, since he's the former chef), and go to the gym/get outside more, both of which are good things. but the first 2 days of no refined carbs have been KILLING me. i am, no lie, completely EXHAUSTED. i think this happened when i started south beach last year, that the body has to get used to a different energy source and it takes a couple of days to go through sugar withdrawal... but damn it sucks. i'm starving and sluggish, and it's not a pretty sight. poor D has had to watch me loll around like a lump all afternoon. maybe we'll go out for a nice dinner tonight, and it'll get my sleepy ass out and awake...
