swingchickie: (red hot)
...something i don't completely enjoy doing alone. i like going to restaurants by myself (do it several times a week), going to the movies by myself (do it monthly), and the rest i'll leave up to your imagination. *grin* but last night, for the first time, i went to a concert by myself at the theater right down the street... and i was surprised by how different the experience was. it wasn't bad, just not as wonderful as if i had someone to share it with. (and [livejournal.com profile] the_cook, i hope you're feeling better... we'll play the CD next week during dinner to make up for it.)

and oh, the group was paris combo... a wonderful trippy, swingy french group influenced by 20s and 30s jazz, and a lot of their songs have a major django reinhardt feel. they're so ultra-cool.

i am SO glad this week is done. between being completely exhausted (and everyone i know is sick right now) and being back at work after the holidays, i just waited and waited for the weekend. lots of random stuff on tap for today and tomorrow -- i have a mensa meeting this morning (i'm finally turning over publicity duties to someone, and then i'm freeeee!), i might see "ray" this afternoon, and then i'm supposed to go dancing tonight... and tomorrow night a bunch of us are going to watch "dancing with gaia", a movie that the ex and i are extras in, that [livejournal.com profile] mugsy1274 made a few years back. i'm so psyched to finally see it!

blargh!
ack!
*ppfffttt*!

i just joined an activities group here in the cambridge area... a small social group that gets together once a month or so to have dinner at a cool restaurant, etc. etc... it seems like a nice group, and i figured it'd be a way to meet some non-dancer folks. the first meeting is this month on the 24th.

EXCEPT...

i just found out that my favorite author in the whole world, douglas coupland, is doing a book reading in the area on that night, at the same time! i saw him a few years ago, and i felt like a teenager at an N*SYNC concert. (okay, i felt like ME at an N*SYNC concert.) i just find him so worthy of stalking, he's incredible. so do i give up some possible new friendships to sit in a crowd like a nervous nelly and get a 15-second "hi" and an autograph? ack... can't... think...
