things i lost today:

1. an earring, as i tried on new year's eve dresses in the mall. i have no idea which store it came off in. darnit.

2. 1-2 inches. at my annual physical this morning, they checked my height... i've always thought i was between 5' and 5'1", turns out i'm 4-foot-freaking-11. eek!

3. lotsa money. took the day off to do all my xmas shopping. darn me for not having a definite list... i walked away having spent much more than i planned. but they're great gifts, so i'm not too unhappy. (and oh -- if anyone knows a good gift for a 3-year-old girl, please help me!)

things i gained today:

1. extra self-esteem... i actually fit into almost every evening gown i tried on today, which was a pleasant surprise. i didn't buy any, because none of them were better than what i already have... but it was great to know that they fit!

2. a beautiful pair of winter-white pants at ann taylor, that i've been searching for for years. literally. have you ever tried buying white pants? they're all completely see-through, and if they don't fit just right they make your butt look massive. i've tried on dozens of pairs over the years, with no luck. these were worth the money... they're lined (so you can't see through 'em), wool (so they drape beautifully), and wide-legged (so they balance out my hips). and even better, they fit perfectly so i don't have to spend money on tailoring.

3. an amazing trip down memory lane. there's a perfume i used to wear when i was just out of college, called "encore"... i loved it so much. it was one of those fragrances where strangers would stop me to ask what i was wearing, because it smelled so amazing. i'd found it in a TJMaxx or marshall's, and even thought it only cost like $15, that bottle was like gold to me. when i ran out of it after a couple of years, i went to get another bottle... and i couldn't find it anywhere. last year, a store owner told me it had been discontinued, and i was devastated. i could still smell it in my mind, and there are a million memories associated with wearing that fragrance. this afternoon, ten years after i used my last drop, i went onto a fragrance website, the fragrance factory. they sell hard-to-find perfumes, and i was like, "there's no way they have this." but i did a search, and *gasp*! there it was! it costs a heck of a lot more now, but i didn't care... i bought a bottle, and it's being shipped this week. no lie, i almost cried i was so happy. talk about an amazing early christmas present.

4. a clean bill of health from my doctor and NP. i told them about how i cut out caffeinated coffee, and all my health problems went away (nausea, blood sugar swings, GI pain, exhaustion, etc.). they are floored at how healthy i've become in just a couple of months. YAY!
