last night was... interesting. it was my friend S's birthday, and he had invited a bunch of people out to a hot boston restaurant for food and drinks. my friend J and i had tentative plans with L1, but it seemed like 95% sure she was going to cancel. (when someone says to you, "i'm not sure, i'll call you on my way home from work... but i might be tired and forget to call, so you call me after 6", it doesn't look very positive.) so J and i agreed that we would go to S's b-day thing. well, oops, L1 called after work and said that she and her boyfriend were ready to hang out. i explained the change of plans, and told her that she and her beau were invited out as well, but she just wanted to hang out and watch a DVD. so after talking with J, we stuck with the birthday invite, and L1 seemed okay with it. (if anything, i think she learned the lesson that you can't keep making tentative plans with people and cancelling, and expect that everyone will wait over and over again.)

so... J and i get to the restaurant early, and it's PACKED. like, even the entrance is jammed. i go up to the hostess stand and tell her we're there, and lo and behold... S never made a reservation. um, okay... a party of 10... on a saturday night... at one of the most popular restaurants in boston... at the end of yom kippur, where everyone wants to eat out... and no reservation??? by 10pm we were STILL waiting for a table, so J and i said goodnight and headed home. J had asked to crash at my place so he could go to yoga nearby in the monring... which is fine... except that i needed my sleep, and having him stay on my sofabed meant i had to lock the cats in with me (angus likes to climb inside the sofabed and scratch all night). which meant that i got no sleep last night, because the cats didn't want to be trapped in the bedroom, so they raised hell all night. ugh.

this morning i got up, showered and ate cereal, and headed out to drive to connecticut to see peter for the day. i was really looking forward to it, because we hadn't seen each other since our blowup 2 weeks ago and we really wanted to reconnect and sort things out. i felt a little queasy at the start of the drive, but i figured it was just excited nerves. nope. an hour into the trip, i was pulled over at a rest area, crying from pain. i ended up having to call peter, who was driving up to meet me halfway, and cancel. i felt so awful. i'm not sure how i made it home, these waves of pain kept hitting me and i was just trying to breathe through it and make it back okay. when i got home, i fell into bed and laid there for hours. so now i'm stuck here, on a gorgeous day, with nothing but me, the cats, and my nasty stomach.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

so, i was lying here feeling all barfy and ouchy, and figured i was going to spend the rest of the day sprawled on the couch watching tv. around 1:00, peter called to see how i was feeling... from downstairs in my lobby. turns out, when i had called him to cancel, instead of turning around to head back home, he just kept going until he hit boston. he literally only had about 20 minutes to check in on me and give me a bouquet of flowers, because he had to drive the 6 or 7 hours back to get his kids from the sitter. but he came all the way out here because he was worried. wow.

interestingly enough, my tummy already feels a little bit better. *grin*
