saturday slumber party

swingchickiethis has been just an awesome (and much needed) lazy day. i slept in until 8am, belted back a cup of coffee, and headed down the street to the mall for an hour or so. of course i didn't find the couple of things i needed for work... but i did get a pair of brown gauchos that were hugely on sale. i know, that's all you see in the stores right now, so everyone's got 'em... but i have those new leopard-print boots that i bought myself for my birthday, and wearing them with gauchos means you'll be able to see them. yay! i also spent a chunk of time in sephora, catching up on all the new fun girly stuff that's out. i had a gift card (gift from the boston co-workers) burning a hole in my wallet, so i was able to splurge and get a big jar of the brown sugar body scrub that Fresh makes. this stuff is so amazing -- it takes away all your dead skin, and leaves you with a light coat of oil that smells like lemony iced tea. i {heart} this stuff. and my skin is going to be so much better... i don't know what it is about philly, or my apartment, or the water here, but i have developed the dry wrinkled skin of an 80-year-old.
oh, and i found these as well... i almost squealed out loud when i saw them! didn't get one though, i couldn't justify it. except for the cuteness. *grin*
my entertainment center came today as well, so the apartment is starting to look like someone actually lives here. (i still haven't been able to bring myself to unpack those last few boxes, or take all the empty ones down to the dumpster.) all i need now is a desk from ikea, which continues to be a long drawn-out saga... there's one just a few miles from me, but i can't go there and get a desk because the mustang doesn't have enough room inside to hold it. so i ordered one online to be delivered, except the order never went through and now i have to call someone in particular to re-place it, who never seems to actually be there when i call. *heavy sigh*. damn swedes.
so, this week, despite the continued long hours, was actually a decent one. i'm starting to really like the job... i'm more comfortable with making decisions, and know who to go to if i need clarification first. a manager in a different part of the department actually sought me out to help her brainstorm on a fun game that might be used with the new reps, and complimented me on what i came up with. *jumping up and down with glee* i actually took a lunch break twice this week (i'm so crazy) and got to know some of my co-workers better. and another manager in the department, who is the equivalent of my boss and was one of the folks who interviewed me for this job, actually invited me to a girls-only holiday party at her home on thursday.
that thursday was actually a lot of fun -- i got out of work at a semi-decent hour, headed to the party for a bit and got to know some of the women who work all around me. and the manager whose party it was... she is just the sweetest, loveliest person. and her home... *fans self* stunning. it belongs in a magazine, it was decorated so beautifully. it makes my place look like a college student lives here. so i stayed at the party for a bit, and as it started to wind down i headed out for (yes, i'm such a wild woman, 2 social things in an evening) drinks with my new karaoke friend. it was really fun... despite the fact that we could barely see each other from the smoke in the bar (god, i miss boston's smoking ban), we had some great conversation and i had 2 whole glasses of merlot and before i knew it it was midnight and i was going to have to get up at 5am to shovel my car out. but i didn't care that i was tired the next day... it was nice to be out and have fun and actually feel like an adult with a social life.
this afternoon, mani/pedi and a nap. tonight? KARAOKE! fun people singing overplayed songs! and booze! whee!
